Tree Planting Gap Analysis

A tree planting gap analysis is a mapping of potential tree planting sites. An inventory of vacant spaces can provide many opportunities to add trees to the urban forest. Gaps in parks, on schools property, on streets, in lane ways and on all public and private lands can be planted to maximize the urban forest canopy.

Native stock is UNC's first choice. Trees and shrubs are sourced from local native tree nurseries. UNC considers it vital to match genetically adapted species to the climate of the planting site to maximize growth and minimize risk. Ecologically and environmentally, it is best to use stock from sources as close and as similar to the planting site as possible. However, urban conditions may dictate the use of non-invasive, non-native species.

Please contact UNC to arrange a meeting.
